The book concert for Liberal Democracy and the Market Economy was held on Monday, January 19, 2026.

Hosted by The Center for Free Enterprise, the event celebrated the publication of a new book by Professor In-cheol Kim, Emeritus Professor of Economics at Sungkyunkwan University. The discussion focused on the relationship between liberal democracy and the market economy, addressing institutional challenges facing Korean society today. In his lecture, Professor Kim explained the intellectual development of liberal thought, the institutional meaning of liberal democracy, and the principles required for a functioning market economy. He emphasized that “liberal democracy and the market economy are interlinked orders and institutional mechanisms for realizing freedom.”

The Q&A session featured Si-jin Kim, a student at Dong-A University Law School, and Seung-hoon Shin, a reporter from EBN, as discussants. The conversation explored how liberal values should be embodied in institutions and public policy, the distortion of key concepts in political debates, and the relationship between expanding regulation and the market order.

We thank all participants for joining the event.
