This seminar examined the need for administrative integration and its major issues, and discussed the significance of local administrative integration and future directions for its implementation, focusing on the case of the Gwangju–Jeonnam Integrated Special City. In particular, it looked at the problems of duplication and inefficiency caused by the mismatch between administrative districts and living and economic zones, and considered whether administrative integration could become a new turning point for regional development and decentralization beyond mere organizational consolidation. It also concluded successfully as a venue for sharing strategies and challenges for realizing substantive fiscal and economic decentralization amid changing relations between the central and local governments.
Thank you to everyone who attended.
