[Seminar] Evaluating Regulations on Platform Companies and Alternatives

The Center for Free Enterprise (CFE), jointly with the Citizens Forum for Good Regulation, held a policy seminar titled “An Assessment of Platform Company Regulation and Alternatives.” The event examined the appropriateness of platform regulation and possible alternatives in light of the recent situation surrounding Coupang, in which the Fair Trade Commission’s sanctions over self-preferencing, regulations concerning the same person, and personal information sanctions were all raised at once, resulting in multiple regulatory tools being layered onto a single company. The discussion broadly covered the empirical performance of ex ante regulation, ex post regulation based on proof of anticompetitive effects, and ways to improve overlapping investigations among government ministries.
