“Labor regulations in four key areas—working hours, employment, dismissal, and wages—must be boldly eased”
- Diagnosing the Yoon Suk Yeol administration’s labor reform and presenting tasks for the economy and jobs in the era of digital transformation
- Jointly hosted by member of the National Assembly Hyeongdong Kim, the Center for Free Enterprise (CFE), the Hannara Foundation for Advanced Korea, and the Next Generation Future Strategy Institute
The Center for Free Enterprise (CFE) (President Sung-no Choi), jointly with People Power Party member of the National Assembly Hyeongdong Kim (Andong–Yecheon), the Hannara Foundation for Advanced Korea, and the Next Generation Future Strategy Institute, successfully held a policy discussion forum on March 9 (Thu) at 2 p.m. in Conference Room 4 of the National Assembly Members’ Office Building under the theme, “Diagnosing the Yoon Suk Yeol Administration’s Labor Reform and Immediate Tasks.”
In his welcoming remarks that day, Sung-no Choi, President of the Center for Free Enterprise (CFE), expressed strong support for the Yoon Suk Yeol administration’s bold labor reform, saying that if the reform succeeds, it can be expected to boost jobs and economic vitality. He added that excessive regulations on working hours and working conditions must be resolved and that the political and violent illegal strikes of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions should no longer be tolerated.
In his remarks, People Power Party member of the National Assembly Hyeongdong Kim stressed, “With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, labor markets are changing rapidly around the world, but Korea remains trapped in outdated laws and institutions and unfair practices that are far removed from global standards,” adding, “In line with the Yoon Suk Yeol administration’s four principles of labor reform—△flexibility, △fairness, safety, and △legal stability (the rule of law in labor-management relations)—we must steadfastly pursue labor reform directly tied to industrial competitiveness and jobs for future generations.”
At the discussion forum, Sung-no Choi, President of the Center for Free Enterprise (CFE), served as moderator, while Professor Jinyoung Kim of Korea University and Professor Heesung Kim of Kangwon National University gave presentations. The panel discussion was led by Jinho Park, senior labor attorney at Hansu Labor Law Firm, Seungmin Cho, adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Politics at Kookmin University (former senior specialist member of the Economic, Social and Labor Council), and Suyeon Park, head of the Labor Issues Promotion Team at the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
