[Seminar] Innovation-Driven Growth: Discussing the New Engine of the Economy

With the recent Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences being awarded to researchers whose work demonstrated that innovation is a key driver of economic growth, “innovation-led growth” is once again emerging as a major topic in global economics. It has been reaffirmed that the creation of new ideas and technologies, along with a free and competitive environment that supports them, leads to sustainable growth. However, the Korean economy still lacks a structure in which innovation can occur naturally: the emergence of new industries is blocked by regulations and administrative procedures, while the exit of outdated industries is delayed. As the entry and growth of innovative firms are pushed aside in favor of preserving the existing order, the vitality of the broader economy and the momentum for raising productivity are weakening.

Through this seminar, the Center for Free Enterprise (CFE) seeks to reaffirm that “innovation is the starting point of growth” and to explore a shift away from government-led growth toward a market structure where private-sector autonomy and competition are alive and well. Covering a wide range of topics—including the institutional foundations of the innovation ecosystem, regulatory reform, and private-sector-led growth models—this event will present practical alternatives for a renewed leap forward for the Korean economy.
