A book concert commemorating the publication of *500 Years of Economic Hegemony* was held on October 6, 2026, at Pureun Hall.
This event was organized to welcome author Jeongho Kim, head of “Jeongho Kim’s Economy TV,” and to examine how global economic hegemony has shifted over the past 500 years, from the Age of Exploration to the AI revolution, while also reflecting together on the changes and challenges facing Korea amid U.S.-China competition and the reorganization of global supply chains.
Following the author’s lecture, the talk concert featured Pyeongse Jo, head of the 1776 Institute, and Youngwook Jang, Senior Researcher of the North America and Europe Team at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy. Together, they explored from various perspectives the conditions that determine economic hegemony, changes in the free trade order, China’s rise, and Korea’s strategic choices.
In particular, the discussion continued in depth on where Korea’s major strategic industries—including semiconductors, shipbuilding, defense, and nuclear power—stand amid changes in the international order, and what is needed to translate current industrial competitiveness into sustained growth.
Thank you to everyone who participated.
