A Book Concert commemorating the publication of How to Deal with the Anxiety of Being Thirty was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Pureun Hall.
This event was organized to welcome author Professor Yongha Kim and share a reflective approach that draws on Epicurus’s happiness theory of “minimizing anxiety,” encouraging people to clarify what they truly want rather than simply seeking to have more, and to set their own standards for success and happiness.
Following the author’s lecture, a talk concert was held with Geonho Kim, Youth Policy Specialist at Gunpo City, serving as moderator, and Siyoung Song, Chair of the Right Labor Union at Seoul Metro, joining the discussion to examine from multiple angles the realities facing people in their 30s today. The candid conversation explored anxiety in one’s thirties by dividing it into what belongs to the individual and what belongs to society—from structural problems that are difficult for individuals to change, such as the contraction of new hiring, the dual structure of the labor market, and intergenerational tensions surrounding the extension of the retirement age, to inner questions such as how to distinguish between one’s own desires and desires instilled by society.
Thank you to everyone who participated.
