Book Concert Celebrating the Publication of *Liberal Democracy and the Market Economy*

The book concert for Free Democracy and the Market Economy was held on Monday, January 19, 2026.

This event was organized by the Center for Free Enterprise (CFE) to commemorate the publication of Free Democracy and the Market Economy, a new book by Kin Chul Kim, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Economics at Sungkyunkwan University. The event featured a discussion on the institutional challenges facing Korean society, centering on the relationship between free democracy and the market economy. In his lecture, Professor Kim explained the intellectual development of liberal thought, the institutional meaning of free democracy, and the principles necessary for a market economy to function, emphasizing that “free democracy and the market economy are interconnected orders and institutional mechanisms for realizing freedom.”

In the Q&A session that followed, Sijin Kim, a student at Dong-A University Law School, and Seunghun Shin, a reporter for EBN, participated as discussants. The discussion focused on how liberal values should be embodied in institutions and policies, the problem of conceptual distortion amid political controversy, and the relationship between the trend toward expanding regulation and the market order.
